Ys [userpic]

When writer Elena Lappin flew to LA, she dreamed of a sunkissed, laid-back city. But that was before airport officials decided to detain her as a threat to security...

Because a U.K. journalist is such a threat to society. Right.

Hell, I wouldn't consider it okay to treat an Al-Jazeera (sp?) journalist that way.

Current Mood: pissed offpissed off

Have I mentioned how happy I am to be moving to Canada?

You seem to be saying that al-Jazeera journalists *are* threats to American security?

Not intentionally.

However, there are many people who happen to live in the same country I do who would consider anyone from that area of the world to be a clear and present threat.

I'm saying that I would not, whether they're a journalist or no.

You have clear evidence that you can present that a particular person has significant terrorist ties and I'll consider whether polite detention is appropriate.

You have indictworthy evidence that a particular person has killed people in terrorist-type actions and may thus be a credible threat to American security and I'll consider whether a certain amount of the sort of hostility described in her essay might be appropriate.

Not that what I consider appropriate matters these days. I just love living in a nascent police state, let me tell you.

Hear hear.

There have been times when I feel I need to take a look at the Al Jazeera reporting. At times everything available from any western source has reeked of obvious bias.

It is not matter of trusting Al Jazeera more. It is matter of distrusting the western sources, too.

I hope I am safe from the U.S. security actions for my treasonable comments. After all, I am a foreigner and it has been years since I last set my foot on American soil.

I periodically read Al-Jazeera's website just to see what all's being said there.
