From a CNN article on the anniversary of the Columbine shootings:

"We just can't believe something like this could have happened in such a beautiful community," Vi Fast said.

I so just want to smack this woman. *smack*

Current Mood: annoyedannoyed

I'm not being snarky, but I wonder why you want to smack her? Is it because the two were taunted and felt they needed to strike back and no one helped them, or am I way off?

Read uisge's response below. It captures perfectly exactly what I meant -- the original quote is an incredibly stupid, racist statement to make.

I said that five years ago. "Then where *would* you expect it to happen?" No one wants to believe that white-bread America sucks completely. It's always in the 'hood, in their closed, ethnocentric little minds.

Horribly sad, yes. Unpredictable and shocking, no.

You know, we really should get together for lunch or something sometime.

Yes, we should. I work M-F 10A-7P, what about you?

M-F, 9A-5P +/- about an hour, most of the time.

I work downtown (I think I may have mentioned that at some point, not sure).

I'm just amazed it didn't/doesn't happen at the allegedly "higher learning" schools too - the same sort of high-school stuff happened there, just the actors in the script were older, and (sometimes) could string together more coherent arguments...
And the 'beautiful communities' are the ones that need to watch out the most; the 'ugly' ones - folks are prepared for the worst.
You're closer, you get to smack her for me, too.
