I have run across the very best quote about the whole Strikethrough 2007 debacle. It's quoting from Perverted Justice, an actual anti-pedo group that tried to get LJ to do something about certain people months ago, and were told off at the time.

I am pleased that 6A's CEO is personally involved in trying to repair the damage that's been done. I'm not happy the damage was done, though. The whole thing was mishandled so badly it's not even funny.

We'll see if they learn from any of this.

"I am pleased that 6A's CEO is personally involved in trying to repair the damage that's been done."

I'm not.

The one piece of information that came out about this that was immediately telling for me is this:

Brad is on vacation.

In the past, LJ has dealt with a lot of issues, including this specific one by repeatedly saying that it is not LJ's place to police members, particularly in this fashion. If law enforcement wanted to get involved, I'm pretty sure Brad would be willing to help, but I'm about as close to 100% positive as I can be that this would not have happened while Brad was around.

There's a metafilter thread where anildash says they were "under the gun" and that's why they made mistakes. He/she is repeatedly asked what the 'gun' was without response. I'm almost positive the 'gun' was getting something in place and announced before Brad could do or say anything to stop them.

Brad has no power to do or say anything to stop them anyway, even if he'd been around. Plus, by his own admission he's mostly not working on LJ anymore anyway.

The gun was pressure from advertisers.
